Every year on March 21 ,it is worldwide celebrated as the International Day of Forests. This year the theme announced at SXB is, Forests and sustainable production and consumption ‘ is aimed at conserving and protecting our forests by helping it sustain in the wild through forest management. In this year, we have found that sustainable development of natural resources can be a forever cure in ensuring a ecological balance in the ecosystem, preventing natural disasters like landslide and abrupt changes in the world climate conditions. Global warming that increase water level in the sea areas and Tsunamis due to lack of mangrove forests in the beaches are the seaside problems that is caused by an imbalance in nature . Many natural disasters like these can be prevented and protected by active conservation of forest. SXB has took to ensure biodiversity by taking steps in afforestation – Planting trees inspired by the chipko movement
The day was only founded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and United Nations in 2013. It is in general formally aimed at raising public awareness among the diverse communities and all about the values, significance and the contributions of the many types of forests to balance the life cycle. Government official networks and international private organisations work together on this very day every year to throw light on the myriad uses of forest conservation and in hopes to enlighten our people and our younger generation about the importance of forests and the need to conserve them in order to save the biodiversity of this world. So many lives have been and is dependent on these amazing forests that have stood up to the test of time. All these forests need to be maintained and forest management must be highlighted in our student’s syllabus as it’s a major concern in terms of preventing wildfires of magnitude like that in the Amazon forests that are recorded in massive platitudes.
Amazon forests have to be conserved by proper interaction with the local villages and such management of forests is vastly important as oy through human error these dangers of a wildfire is caused, killing biodiversity and birds and animals in the process. In Australia also there was a series of forest fire during the corona pandemic and it killed animals and rendered many of these lovely creatures as homeless and this image rocked the internet to spoils. On this wonderful day, we initiate our students and staff to go plant a few sapling and be an inspiration. Like in the chipko movement, we have been taking inspiration as to the concept of each one, plant one mind-set. Vivek, an actor from the Indian industry had planted more than 28 lakh trees in Tamilnadu as guided by APJ Abdul Kalam . Our inspiration can be within our reach and that can be an initiation for change as students are the future leaders. ST Xavier’s Bangalore is also gearing up today to inspire and conserve forests. Wish you a happy world foresty day.!
