On the first of November each year, Karnataka Formation Day is celebrated as “Rajyotsava” day. This celebration commemorates the merger of Kannada-speaking regions in South India, which resulted in the formation of the Karnataka state on November 1, 1956.South India was ruled by the State of Mysuru, the Nizams of Hyderabad, the Madras (now Chennai) Presidency, and the Bombay (now Mumbai) Presidency at the time of India’s independence. The process of redefining the regions based on the language spoken by locals was started in order to improve administration. The boundaries of Mysuru state were redrawn in 1956 to include Kannada-speaking areas of other states that were adjacent. On the same day, a neighbouring state known as Andhra Pradesh was also created, with regions that speak Telugu. On November 1, 1973, the name was changed from “Mysuru” to “Karnataka. “Since then, November 1 has been celebrated as the state’s founding date. The Rajyotsava Prize: On each Karnataka Rajyotsava Day, the government of Karnataka honours individuals who have made significant contributions to Kannada culture and Karnataka.
Cultural Activities: To highlight Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage, numerous cultural events and celebrations are held throughout the state. A spectacular display of the various forms of folk art and the state’s culture, traditions, and cuisine. The 67th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations in Karnataka were marred by protests from a group demanding a separate state for the Kalyana Karnataka region and calls for a black day in the Belagavi district from the Maharashtra Ekikarana Samithi. Witness the entire state wearing festive clothes in the colours Yellow and Red (representing the Karnataka Flag) and flags in every corner of the state. On November 1, the Kannada Rajyotsava festival commemorates the establishment of the state of Karnataka.
On Tuesday, Kalyana Karnataka Prathyeka Rajya Horata Samiti activists were detained by police in Kalaburagi. The group wants a separate state made up of districts in the Kalyana Karnataka region, such as Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, and Bellary, among others.
When the protesters were taken into custody, they were marching toward the SPV circle in Kalaburagi to raise a separate flag in support of the state they had been demanding. They said that the people of the Kalyana Karnataka region were still treated unfairly because these districts haven’t grown much even though their resources are used to benefit the state as a whole. According to the activists, the only way to guarantee development is a separate state.
